Just as Chris Stapleton feels humbled by the love that his fans show him at every single concert, the singer wanted to reach out to a special supporter after they shined as a hero in their own community.

Jeremy Mason is a K-9 officer in Jacksonville, Florida, who was on pursuit of a suspect during a bank robbery chase one night when he was shot by the suspect in the face. Although he recovered from the horrific injury, Stapleton wanted to show him a good time at his recent Jacksonville concert. Inviting Mason to join him backstage for a hangout session, Stapleton requested that he get to know Mason and thank him for his brave efforts.

“In July 2017, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office K-9 Officer Jeremy Mason was shot in the face while pursuing a bank robbery suspect and three time convicted felon. While fleeing from police, the suspect leaned out the window of a vehicle and shot at police multiple times. Officer Mason was shot in the face by the suspect while driving. He continued to pursue the suspect, and returned fire. Country music star Chris Stapleton who was in Jacksonville for a concert Saturday night, heard of Officer Mason’s heroic story and requested to meet him. Chris Stapleton also requested to meet other law enforcement officers working,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post regarding Stapleton’s meet-and-greet time with Mason.

The two even snapped a quick picture before Stapleton hit the stage, and Mason looked overly enthused at the grand opportunity to meet one of his country music favorites.

“Thank you Mr. Stapleton for taking the time out of your day to honor us,” the social media post continued. “From all of us at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, we thank you for your support.”

Stapleton is currently wrapping up his fall leg of his tour before releasing From A Room: Volume 2 on December 1.
