Chris Young Dishes On Working With Cassadee Pope and Vince Gill

Chris Young released his fifth studio album, I’m Comin’ Over, on Friday (Nov. 13). Among the album’s 11 tracks are two incredible duets, one with Cassadee Pope, the other with the legendary Vince Gill.

“Think Of You,” his duet with Pope, wasn’t originally written for two people. “We were talking about writing it as a duet, but then we were like ‘no, we shouldn’t do that,’ because it’s so hard to get the right duet partner,” Young tells Sounds Like Nashville of the song he co-wrote with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge. “And man, if I could pick anyone to come sing on this song, it would be her. And she agreed to do it. It very much worked out the way I wanted it.”

Young also reached out to Gill to see if he’d be interested in working with him on the song “Sober Saturday Night.” He agreed and the two met at Gill’s home studio to record the track. Gill offered to play on the track as well.

“Vince comes out. He sits down and he goes, ‘Now, I just don’t want you to feel if I play something, that you’re handcuffed to it. You don’t have to put it on the record if you don’t like it,’ Young told SLN, laughing. “I look over at the wall full of Grammy awards and I’m like, ‘No, I think we’re going to keep it. I think whatever you do is gonna be fine.’ Being able to have him on the record was something really special.”
