In times of crisis, Chris Young is coming to the rescue to help those affected Hurricane Harvey.

The country singer is using his platform to reach out to his hundreds of thousands of followers to encourage them to make a donation to the victims of Hurricane Harvey and aid in disaster relief efforts. Hoping to raise a total of $500,000 to help citizens of Texas rebuild and recover from the horrific weather conditions, Young set up a GoFundMe page and dedicated a whopping $100,000 himself to get the donations flowing.

Within less than 24 hours of creating the account through the charitable start-up company’s site, Young received more than $43,000 from 609 pledgers to give back to Houston and the surrounding communities for all of their losses, both personally and structurally.

Young’s personal connection to the Houston area as a homeowner gave him the gumption to start helping out his community by urging his friends and fans to give as little or much as they can to the American Red Cross in order to boost up the morale for so many who lost everything in the hurricane.

“I have friends and family there and I’m almost certain my house down there may have to be torn down as it was in one of the areas that was hardest hit by winds and flooding…But that’s the least of my concerns. I’m worried about the people there – my friends, family and neighbors – and I want to help,” he said in the persistent video clip. “Love you guys and every little bit helps. In times like these, you turn to your friends to help those in need and that’s exactly what I’m doing. I hope you’ll donate… and Texas…we love you.”

Hurricane Harvey is one of the strongest hurricanes to hit Texas in many years, with a Category Four rating upon landfall. The storm brought up to 20 inches of rain in some areas of the Southeastern region of the state, leaving thousands of homes without any power and completely flooded to capacity. The catastrophe has killed five people, and the devastation will only continue to hit throughout the next couple days.

Those who want to donate to Young’s page can head to the listing HERE or log onto the American Red Cross website to pledge directly to the cause.
