Chris Young is giving back to his alma mater in a big way with the creation of a special scholarship for recording industry students at Middle Tennessee State University.

The donated scholarship will be awarded to a rising junior or senior at Middle Tennessee State University on an annual basis. MTSU’s recording industry program is known in the area as one of the most popular programs through the school, and it even helped Young get on the right track for his career in country music.

“MTSU helped to give me a foundation for the music business and I want this scholarship to help other students who are looking to take a similar path,” said Young.

The country star has always remained close to the school that gave him the boost to follow his dreams in the music industry, and Young thought it would be the least he could do to help out his fellow up-and-coming artists trying to make a name for themselves by starting out near the heart of Music City.

Even many of the administration from MTSU have credited Young to his constant close connection to the college despite his huge success since his years attending the university.

“Chris has remained a loyal and connected MTSU alum through the years,” said Joe Bales, Vice President of University Advancement. “He’s returned to perform several times in MTSU’s Murphy Center as his music career ascended and remains generous with his time and talent, even donating some of his touring audio equipment and accessories a few years ago.”

Young, who earned a GRAMMY nomination for his duet with Cassadee Pope earlier this week, recently released a new holiday album called It Must Be Christmas, which is available for purchase now.
