Christina Aguilera and Rascal Flatts are set to duet at Sunday’s 50th Academy of Country Music Awards.

They will perform two songs; Aguilera’s “Shotgun” and the Flatts’ current single “Riot.”

“We’re going to do some of her song, then go into Riot,” Jay DeMarcus tells USA Today. “It’s going to be a nice, seamless transition and a really powerful performance.”

“Shotgun” is a song written for Aguilera’s stint on ABC’s “Nashville,” where the powerhouse vocalist plays Jade St. John, a pop star who wants to try her hand at country music. (Aguilera’s three-episode arc begins tonight on ABC at 10/9c)

“We are putting a different spin on the song for the awards,” she shares, “but it’s a quiet, beautiful song about true love that lasts a lifetime.”

DeMarcus says the group, who is vying for ACM Vocal Group of the Year, is excited to perform with Aguilera. “When you make a list of people you want to collaborate with, over the years that list gets shorter. Christina was one of those names that’s always been at the top of the list, but we’d never had the chance to work with her.”

While she hasn’t had a chance to meet DeMarcus or his bandmates Gary LeVox or Joe Don Rooney just yet, Aguilera is equally excited to team up with them. “I really love the rich tone of (LeVox’s) voice. He has a sound that fans recognize immediately.”

The 50th ACM Awards, co-hosted by Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, will be broadcast LIVE from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 8:00 PM – 11:30PM ET/delayed PT on the CBS Television Network.
