“Not one second when I do that, she hops on my back and I'm like, that not what I meant, I meant like stay away,” he said with a laugh.

Cole Swindell has been having one hell of a time opening for Dierks Bentley on the What The Hell World Tour this winter. Not only is he opening for one of his longtime inspirations and good friends, but he’s also got plenty of crazy stories from his time on the road. Recently, the Georgia native had a run in with a fan while he was onstage with Bentley singing their collaboration, and Swindell’s current single, “Flatliner.”

“Somebody hopped up on the stage while we were doing [Flatliner],” Swindell told Sounds Like Nashville and other media recently. “We were in Canada and they were a little wilder there I guess. Well this girl hops up on stage and Dierks was out at the end of the stage, back turned and I’m trying to do what a good friend would do. I think she’s about to go run up and tackle him. I don’t know, so I’m trying to do the basket … The box out.”

While Swindell does his best to block the girl from tackling an unknowing Bentley, he never could’ve predicted what happened next.

“Not one second when I do that, she hops on my back and I’m like, that not what I meant, I meant like stay away,” he said with a laugh. “So [I’m] sitting here with this girl on my back with a million words in this song and finally the tour manager got her off.”

He’s not entirely sure what happened with the rowdy fan after she was pried from his back, but he is proud that he was able to make it through the entire song partially unscathed.

“I’m glad I kept my balance though. She was serious. Yes, she was aggressive, so we got her on out of there and finished the song,” he proudly concluded.

Swindell will continue the What The Hell Tour with Bentley throughout the rest of the year. “Flatliner” is the third single from his sophomore album You Should Be Here and follows No.1 songs “Middle of a Memory” and “You Should Be Here.”
