Just when the Nashies thought that Connie Britton was gone for good, she came up with a clever way to return back to the set of Nashville for one big plot twist.

Sitting down to talk with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night (Feb.27), the host made Britton lay down the law about her character’s tragic passing and clarify that she won’t be revived in a later instance.

But before crushing all of the hopes of those dedicated Nashville fans, Colbert brainstormed a couple alternative solutions to the Rayna James exit by creating new storylines for the showrunners to keep in mind. Throwing out ideas involving zombies and a fake death scenario, it was the evil twin idea that caught Britton’s attention quite well.

“I’m sorry! I gotta tell it like it is. She’s really dead. But I think the twin sister idea is not bad. I mean, it’s Nashville. Anything could happen! What if the long lost sister comes back and oh, she’s such a devil! Oh, she’s such a devil. She’ll come back and she’ll be horrible,” she conspired with Colbert.

It won’t be long until Britton brushes off her acting chops for the small screen, as she’ll be starring in the Netflix movie, The Land of Steady Habits. She’ll be working alongside Ted Thompson,  Ben Mendelsohn, Edie Falco and Thomas Mann in the anticipated dramedy.

Nashville is still airing episodes of season five on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET on CMT.
