It’s going to take some time even for Connie Britton to come to terms with the cancellation of the ABC drama, Nashville.

Britton, who plays country queen Rayna James, stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday night (May 16) to chat about the surprising news that left fans of the show blindsided last week. She addressed the mutual feelings of sadness throughout the cast, but said she’s hopeful for a new beginning somewhere else.

“It’s bittersweet, you know,” said Britton. “Look. I always feel like to have four years on anything, you can never take that for granted and you know it’s been a really great run, but it’s nice to feel like, ‘Ok, we kind of ended it and now we’re gonna move on and hopefully I’ll be able to do something else fun and great.”

Like the majority of the cast, Britton became hugely involved in the local Nashville community. She told Meyers she lived in Music City 10 months of the year and that her son had also adjusted to the Southern way of life.

“I think he’s just gonna ditch me now because he’s like, ‘I’m staying in Nashville. These people are cool. I’m learning how to play the drums. See ya later,” Britton said. “He’s like, ‘LA people are really weird.’”

While there are no updates on whether or not the show will be picked up for a fifth season on another network, many fans keep petitioning on Twitter for the show’s return through a hashtag feed called #BringBackNashville. Lionsgate Studios, which produced the country music series, has been pitching the show around in order to keep the fan-beloved series alive.

Catch Nashville’s series finale airing on Wednesday, May 25, at 10/9c on ABC.
