Family Comes First in Corey Smith’s ‘Halfway Home’ Video

“This might seem like my choice to you / But leaving’s something that your dad has gotta do / And it’s nothing we can’t make it through,” he sings.

Being an artist on the road can be hard, especially for those who have families waiting at home. Georgia native Corey Smith knows this, so he decided to make his family the star of his latest music video.

In the clip for his new song, “Halfway Home,” Smith features a slew of photos and videos of his wife and two sons on vacation, while sprinkling in shots of his life on the go. Showcasing this side of his life was easy for the singer/songwriter, who found it easy to write the song about those he loves most.

“In my experience, I’ve found that the most meaningful songs are usually the easiest ones to write,” shares Smith. “They reveal themselves quickly, as if the words are there waiting to be given voice. Creating them feels more like remembering than inventing, and their completion comes with a powerful sense of euphoria, as if a weight has been lifted. That’s how ‘Halfway Home’ was. It was the easiest song I’ve written in a long time and, not coincidentally, it’s a song that will mean a great deal to me and my family for years to come. Now that it’s out in the world, I sincerely hope others find meaning in it as well.”

The song contains a heartfelt message to his two sons explaining why he has to go. “This might seem like my choice to you / But leaving’s something that your dad has gotta do / And it’s nothing we can’t make it through,” he sings.

Fans can pick up “Halfway Home” now ahead of the release of Smith’s forthcoming project, the Great Wide Underground.
