Craig Campbell Says Every Day Is Valentine’s Day

When asked his idea of the perfect Valentine’s Day, Craig Campbell says he and his wife don’t put a big emphasis on the holiday.

“We try to make every day Valentine’s Day with each other,” he says sitting on a lounge chair outside a mini water park at the Barceló resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico, taking a break between his performances at Crash My Playa.

The country singer-songwriter fondly recalls the first time he saw his wife perform at Nashville’s The Second Fiddle on Broadway before he moved to Tennessee to pursue an artist career of his own.

“I asked her if I could get up there and sing. She told me no,” he remembers with a laugh. “She didn’t know me that well, she just said, ‘No. Go get your own gig.’ She was very rude about that.”

Things worked out in the end for the couple, who now have two daughters together, and when asked for the best advice on love he has received, Campbell admits that there are different stages of love.

“For me, when I decided to ask my wife to marry me, a couple simple questions were: ‘Do I like her? Are we friends? Can we have a good time together?’ Those were all absolute yes,” he says. “I feel like if you want to make that leap you have to ask yourself those questions: ‘Do we have a good time together? Do we love each other? Are we friends?'”

The husband and father of two adds that he’s often on the road for Valentine’s Day and hasn’t been able to celebrate February 14 with his girls in a while. This year, however, will be very different.

“My girls are 7 and 5 and for the past two years I’ve been on the road for the Father-Daughter Dance which is right around Valentine’s Day,” he explains. “This year, both of the girls are in school so I’ve been blocking it off on my calendar, saying, ‘I’m not gonna miss this!'”

Campbell is sure this year will be his best Valentine’s Day yet as he’ll be getting a limo for the special occasion to take his daughters to the Father-Daughter Dance at their school. “It’s going to be good,” he adds.
