Danielle Bradbery Dishes On New Song, ‘Mama Was A Liar’

As Danielle Bradbery puts the finishing touches on her yet-to-be-announced sophomore project, the singer/songwriter is giving fans a taste of new music in a very unique way. Instead of releasing new tracks directly to fans, the 19-year-old has developed a series of videos that feature a short interview about her new songs and an acoustic clip of tracks.

This week, Bradbery teased the song “Mama Was A Liar.” “That one I wrote in LA and we kind of just brainstormed and just talked about life,” the Texas native tells Sounds Like Nashville of the song. “What the song really is about is not a Mom, and that is what a lot of people are assuming. And I figured they would.”

“But it’s really about life and opportunities and the negative people have around them all in one,” she continues. “We decided to call it ‘Mama Was A Liar’ and kind of step way out of the box. If people have an open mind then they’ll know what it means. It’s a really deep and really cool song so I’m excited for everybody to hear it.”

It’s been two years since the release of her self-titled debut album, so Bradbery is more than ready to show fans what she’s been working on…and they are equally excited to hear it.

“[It’s] really exciting to share with everybody because I know they’re like ‘when’s the album coming out?’, ‘when are we gonna get to hear stuff?’ she says with a laugh. These videos can kind of get them prepped instead of hearing nothing from me.”

Fans can also hear Bradbery’s new music at her live shows. While she admits it’s both “nerve-racking” and “exciting” to share new music in a live setting, she appreciates the instant feedback she receives from her fans.

“Going out there and performing those, you don’t know how the crowd is going to react to them.. It’s kind of like ‘okay, here’s what I got, I hope you like it’ and they’re just all listening,” she admits. “It’s a little nerve-racking on that part. But it’s really exciting because I sign after every show and I see all the fans and they tell me which one they love.”

It’s valuable feedback that Bradbery doesn’t take for granted. “It kind of helps me narrow down my own album. We’re all in this together.”

Fans can catch Bradbery on the road with Brett Eldredge and Thomas Rhett on the Suits and Boots Tour through December 11.
