New dad David Nail is starting to feel the pressures of parenting, but thanks to the small town of Nashville, a run-in with another country singer and fellow father calmed his nerves.

Nail talked to Sounds Like Nashville recently about the craziness that is being a parent and how he’s been handling the transition from living life with no kids to the hustle and bustle of twins. While he and his wife, Catherine, have been holding up pretty well as mom and dad, there are still moments of confusion and exhaustion when it comes to taking care of the kids.

“It’s just hard to really get your mind wrapped around it,” said Nail. “Everybody is in your ear telling you advice and this is what you need to do and this is how you should raise them and this is where they should go to school and this is the kind of diapers you need. You’re just completely overwhelmed.”

During one of those overwhelming moments, Nail happened to be out and about running errands before one of the big winter snowstorms. Little did he know that his whirlwind shopping trip would land him some savvy advice from Dierks Bentley himself.

“Everybody’s reaching over everybody, practically pulling chicken out of other people’s plates. I was just a man on a mission. I heard somebody say, ‘Mr. Nail.’ I remember just being in a trance and looking up and it was Dierks,” Nail said.

After chatting for a couple minutes in the aisle about how young the babies were at that point, Bentley decided to lend his fatherly advice from one dad to another.

“Dierks is so cool and he’s like, ‘It gets better…like four months,’” said Nail.

Admitting to still be in a blur from the whole run-in, Nail immediately called his wife for a reality check on the drive home before he got too ahead of himself.

“I got in my car and I drove down the road about half a mile and I called Catherine. I was like, ‘Hey, will you call Cassidy [Bentley’s wife] and tell her to tell Dierks that I absolutely remember zero from our conversation just now because my head was in so many different places and I probably look like the biggest dork in the history of the world,’ he said.

While Nail may be learning about this dad stuff more and more every day, he’s grateful for people like Bentley to pass along the seeds of wisdom for being a parent.
