Newcomer Devin Dawson isn’t hoping to play the role of the white knight as he anticipates his debut album in country music, Dark Horse.

The album features 12 personal tracks to Dawson as he contributed songwriting credits on every song throughout the full-length release. He even called upon Nashville names like Jillian Jacqueline, Seth Ennis and many more well-known songwriters in the Music City community when creating the album.

As for Dawson, he laid his heart on the line for the project and hopes the Dark Horse theme explains a bit into the depth of his personality for fans to get to know him more.

“I’m beyond excited to FINALLY share the release date for my debut album. And when it came time to choose a title, nobody talked about other options – we knew immediately it should share the same name as the track ‘Dark Horse.’ Despite being written after the album was ‘finished,’ I felt it was absolutely necessary to include this song. ‘Dark House’ captures every corner of my heart, everything I am and everything I believe in,” Dawson said in a press release.

Dawson has grown exponentially in his career over just the past year, appearing as the opening act on tours for Maren Morris, Dan + Shay and the Soul2Soul Tour with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. He also sent out “All on Me” to radio and picked up a good enough following to earn the title of iHeartRadio’s On The Verge artist. The singer plans to follow up the success of “All on Me” with the album’s title track as the next single headed to radio.

Dark Horse will hit shelves January 19, 2018.
