Devin Dawson’s new video for his song “Asking For A Friend” may have you feel like you’re seeing double.

The song itself tells the story of Dawson asking an ex for forgiveness for a friend, even though that friend is actually him. In this black and white video, a new version of Dawson appears to represent a different “friend” each time. Directed by Patrick Tracy, the video brings the song to life perfectly by showing that while Dawson may be saying he’s asking for a friend, he’s really wanting to know the answer for himself. Dawson wanted the video to portray the lyrics accurately and the concept of “cloning” him that Tracy came up with did just that.

When discussing the new video, Dawson said, “Music videos have a one-of-a-kind way of elevating a song to the next level, whether that’s taking a completely new turn, twist, or angle on a song’s concept or simply driving home the song’s core emotion. For this video I really wanted to emphasize the story and the lyric of ‘Asking For A Friend.’ The prideful character I’m playing in this song and video is taking a round-about way of trying to apologize to his lady by asking forgiveness ‘for a friend.’ In reality, he’s simply asking for himself.”

In addition to releasing the music video for “Asking For A Friend,” Dawson has also started a video series called “Asking For A Friend – Answered” in which he answers questions that fans have sent in anonymously and wants fans to know that nothing is off limits when they ask their questions “for a friend.”

Fans can catch Dawson out on the road for the remaining days on Brett Eldredge’s The Long Way Tour and can find dates and more details on his website.
