An unexpected collaboration between a country singer and a rock-and-roll songstress blossomed into not only an incredibly moving song, but also a beautiful friendship. Dierks Bentley and Elle King prove they create the best of both worlds both in and out of the studio during their time together on a segment called “Something in Common” for CBS This Morning.

During the clip for the morning news show, Bentley is shown giving King the ultimate tour of the backstage area of the Grand Ole Opry. While many people wouldn’t put this pair together, their easily made chemistry and similar senses of humor bring them together closer than anyone could have ever imagined. Plus, their harmonies don’t skip a beat when layered atop each other’s voices.

Bentley and King also talk about how the project became a real life track for his latest album, Black, and why their duet worked so well together despite the differences in their genres.

“The song, ‘Different for Girls.’ I had this great song someone sent to me and trying to find a way to take this great song and take it somewhere unexpected. So I looked for someone weird and beautiful and talented and different,” Bentley said about the collaboration as King lit up excitedly over his response.

Being her first time on the Grand Ole Opry stage, King got shown around all of the dressing rooms and iconic spaces behind the scenes of the famous country venue. The more Bentley introduced King to his version of Nashville though, he realized how much of a family the community is here in town.

“I’m seeing Nashville a bit differently because of you, because I just see the way people treat you and it’s like, ‘Wow.’ There’s just really nice people in country music that are, like, so endearing,” Bentley explained.

Their hit, “Different for Girls,” blew up the country radio charts and found a spot on top at No. 1 a few weeks back. The track is featured on Bentley’s current release, Black, which is available for purchase in stores or on digital music retailers.
