After spending the summer climbing its way up the charts, Dierks Bentley’s single, “Different for Girls,” has reached the No. 1 spot this week, earning him his 15th time on the top.

The track, which features pop-rock songstress Elle King, is from his most recent album, Black, and is the follow-up to his massive hit, “Somewhere on a Beach.” Taking off completely from that single’s low-key vibe, Bentley got serious with a solid message in “Different for Girls,” and gained steady support from many fans for its theme.

“’Different for Girls’ just looks at the different ways guys and girls both handle breakups and what they do to manage the heartbreak and the pain, and just one perspective on how it looks from my perspective,” said Bentley about the track.

His album, Black, has found major success since its release and “Different for Girls” marks another dimension of Bentley’s sound. As a father of two daughters himself, he understands how important it is for girls to be recognized in that light more often than not since their view in a breakup typically gets skewed.

“This is a song I couldn’t have sung eight years ago before my daughter Evie was born. I could’ve but I would have just sang it from one stand point,” he told Sounds Like Nashville and other media at an event a few weeks ago. “It’s a song that’s not just for one thing, but opens it up for dialogue. It’s a crazy song and that’s why I put it out there. It’s a different song that makes people think a little bit and it says something that I don’t think has been said before.”

Bentley has had quite a big year as he was nominated for four CMA Awards in the categories of Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year with King for “Different for Girls.”
