Every year when the CMA Awards roll around in November, it always brings back many happy memories for Dierks Bentley and his connection to the awards show. Not only has the country singer attended quite a few of the ceremonies, he’s also been a fan of the event long before he got his start.

Just as many viewers at home, Bentley used to flick on his television and catch the awards right from his couch at home in Arizona. But once he made the move out to Music City, he always got thrown into the action whether it be during his days as an intern or as he became one of the biggest names in country music.

Now that the CMA Awards are celebrating 50 years of honoring some of the best artists in the genre, Bentley can’t help but look back on the impact it made in his life as well as many others.

“It’s a huge deal being the 50th anniversary of the CMA Awards. I have so much respect for this awards show. I used to watch it at home in Arizona, and when I moved out here I was intern for the CMA, so I’ve spent a lot of time watching the rehearsals here and the actual show. So, it’s amazing to see how it’s grown over the last 50 years and now being in the arena now downtown. It’s a huge event. It’s a big night. The 50th will be, you know, I’ve seen some of the behind-the-scenes stuff going on for the 50th, and it’s gonna be a really, really memorable night,” he explained recently.

Having that insider’s view while also being a major part of the show as well, it makes sense why Bentley feels so closely connected to the upcoming awards show. This year, he’s been nominated for Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Musical Event of the Year (with duet partner Elle King) and Music Video of the Year. Looks like Bentley is in for a big year, whether or not he takes home the trophies.
