With his new album, Black, dropping today (5/27), Dierks Bentley is making his media rounds with stops at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Today.

Bentley first dropped by Fallon and performed his first single off of the new record, “Somewhere on a Beach,” during the late-night talk show on Thursday night (5/26). The summertime anthem rocked strong and steady as Bentley felt the good vibes.

On Friday morning (5/27), Bentley briefly sat down with the Today show anchors and chatted with them about the inspiration behind the album and his dynamic approach to his live shows. When it came to the album, he admitted that it was all about his wife and even said the title came straight from her maiden name.

“It’s a real relationship record,” said Bentley. “Just kinda looks at any relationship, young, old. Just the ups and downs of being in a long-term relationship and it’s got a lot of female voices on it. You know, a big female presence. Obviously, my wife’s maiden name’s on the cover, so that’s the biggest voice.”

He even talked a little bit about his drinking game on the road, mentioning that they bring his ‘Whiskey Row’ bar everywhere they go on the road.

“We have a little bar backstage. We like to have a little fun back there. You know, it’s like I can’t go out to a bar when I’m on the road, so we make a little bar backstage and just invite friends back,” Bentley explained.

Bentley took the Rockefeller Plaza stage for the Citi Concert Series on Today that happens on Fridays throughout the summer. He played to a big crowd of fans and Fleet Week troops alike and performed “Somewhere on a Beach,” “I Hold On,” and a song off the new album called “Freedom.”

Black was released on Friday, May 27, and is available in stores and on digital retailers. Check out more of Bentley’s performances on Today HERE.
