Memorial Day marks a time for reflection, and Dierks Bentley is thinking of the tough sacrifices made daily by U.S. servicemen and women.

Bentley often goes on the road for his job, but he knows that being gone for a few days out of the week is nothing compared to the length of time that most miltary personnel are away from their loved ones. Even though comparison doesn’t always work for different careers, the country singer still praises the brave ones who give it all up for the country and their commitment to the career.

“On the most basic level, I think, for me on the road, I just think about being gone two, three days at a time, maybe a couple of weeks at a time, you know. That seems like a long time when you have kids and family, but these soldiers, they’re gone for months and years at a time – they’re doing 12 to 15 to 18 months — and they have family back home. That, in itself, is such a huge sacrifice, and that’s just the beginning of it. That’s just scratching the surface of what these guys [and gals] are doing every day – preparing for battle, actually being in battle, being wounded in battle, sometimes dying in battle. So, this country obviously, we would not exist without those courageous men and women, and our future depends upon them,” he said recently.

While he has never served in the military, Bentley’s father was a World War II veteran and Bentley has always done what he can to support U.S. troops, whether it be arranging a surprise homecoming for a soldier and their family or meeting with a wounded veteran backstage before a show.

Bentley will be spending his Memorial Day Weekend playing the Country 500 Festival in Daytona Beach, FL and will be out on the road all summer long headlining the Mountain High Tour with Brothers Osborne and LANCO. Fans can find tour dates and more on his website.
