Dolly Parton says her comments about Hillary Clinton were “taken out of context” after a recent interview in which she was asked about the 2016 presidential election.

The New York Times asked Parton how she felt about a female presidential candidate. The Tennessee native responded by saying, “Well, I think that that would be wonderful. Hillary might make as good a president as anybody ever has. I think no matter if it’s Hillary or Donald Trump, we’re gonna be plagued with PMS either way — presidential mood swings! But I personally think a woman would do a great job. I think Hillary’s very qualified. So if she gets it, I’ll certainly be behind her.”

Several media outlets then reported that Parton had endorsed Clinton, and now the singer is setting the record straight.

“This morning while I was watching the news I saw many reports that I had endorsed Hillary Clinton. My comment about supporting a woman in the White House was taken out of context,” Parton said in a statement to the press. “I have not endorsed Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump. I try not to get political but if I am, I might as well just run myself ’cause I’ve got the hair for it, it’s huge, and they could always use more boobs in the race. But seriously, I have not decided who I’m voting for, but no matter what we’re gonna be suffering from PMS, Presidential Mood Swings.”

It’s a busy year for Parton. Not only did the 70-year-old recently renew her vows with her husband of 50 years, she also set out on the Pure & Simple Tour, her biggest North American tour in 25 years. The iconic entertainer is also gearing up for the release of the movie Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love on NBC this fall.
