Dolly Parton Steals the Show at the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards

“I almost didn’t get in. Seriously I didn’t. They were holding me backstage. They kept wanting to see my IDs… well I think it was IDs. Maybe it was just double-Ds," she joked.

Hollywood was out in full force Sunday night (Jan. 29) at the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, CA. While stars ranging from Emma Stone to Sofia Vergara and Ryan Gosling to Denzel Washington were in the room, the biggest reaction was given to country music’s own Dolly Parton, who received a standing ovation upon her entrance.

“Greetings from Dollywood, Hollywood,” she said as she stepped onstage to honor her “9 to 5” costar Lily Tomlin, who was being awarded with 2016 SAG Life Achievement Award.

Parton stole the show with a three-minute monologue about her dear friend Tomlin, while also throwing in several jokes about herself as well.

“I almost didn’t get in. Seriously I didn’t. They were holding me backstage. They kept wanting to see my IDs… well I think it was IDs. Maybe it was just double-Ds. I don’t know. I’m glad to get that off my chest… but anyway… Jane and Lily aren’t my only two famous girlfriends, right,” she joked.

“This is the SAG Awards highest honor that’s going to be given to my ‘9 to 5’ buddy, Miss Lily Tomlin,” she continued. “I might say that Lily is receiving an award I’ve spent my whole life trying to avoid…. SAG Award? If I see something sagging, dragging and bagging, I’m going to call Dr. Mark and say get that nip, tucked and sucked right away.”

After several other jokes that only she could get away with, the legendary singer, who recently turned 71, went on to talk about Tomlin and her 50-plus years in the industry, starring in films like “9 to 5,” “Big Business,” “Nashville,” “All of Me,” “The Incredible Shrinking Woman,” and many others.
