The citizens of Sevierville, Tennessee are sure proud of their hometown hero, Dolly Parton, and plan to honor her during a special music event.

The Mountain Soul Vocal Competition is held every year in the East Tennessee region and showcases the pride toward Parton in her songwriting and musical ability. Artists from all around contribute their talents to the singing event, including all-genre musicians from rap to bluegrass.

“This competition is truly unique and draws competitors from all corners of the United States,” Chamber Marketing Director and event organizer Amanda Marr stated recently. “Since Dolly Parton is Sevierville’s hometown girl, holding a competition that honors her songwriting ability was a natural fit for us.”

Participants of all ages are encouraged to come out, with two divisions between a 12 and under category and a 13 and older section. While the 13 and up winner is selected by a judging panel, the younger group will be decided based on auditions sent in to the competition. April 7 marks the last day hopeful competitors can submit their work.

The Mountain Soul Vocal Competition, honoring Parton for the thirteenth year, will be held at Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass in Sevierville, Tennessee, on May 20.
