‘Dolly Parton’s Coat Of Many Colors’ Draws Record Audience

13 million: That’s the number of people who tuned in to Dolly Parton’s Coat Of Many Colors when it aired Thursday night (Dec. 10) on NBC.

The film, which is based on Dolly Parton’s life growing up in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, drew the biggest ratings for an original movie on television since 2011. It also brought in NBC’s biggest audience in the time period since the airing of The Sound of Music, starring Carrie Underwood, in 2013. Excluding all live programming (sports and TV musicals), the network hasn’t seen a larger Thursday 9-11 p.m. audience since the series finale of ER in 2009.

The heartwarming family film is narrated by Parton and stars Jennifer Nettles, Ricky Schroder, and Alyvia Alyn Lind. If you missed the original airing, NBC is now streaming the movie on its website.
