Don Henley Enlists Miranda Lambert, Dolly Parton and More For New Album

Don Henley

The Eagles’ Don Henley is going country and has enlisted the help of some of country music’s biggest stars for his brand new album.

“It’s like reading a screenplay. Who would be the best to play this part?” Henley explained (quote via Associated Press). “I was extremely fortunate in that nobody turned me down.”

Cass County, Henley’s new album, is out tomorrow and features collaborations with Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Miranda Lambert, Trisha Yearwood and Vince Gill.

The album kicks off with a cover of Tift Merritt’s “Bramble Rose,” which features Lambert and The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger. “I emailed (Lambert) and said, ‘What do you think if the guy who sang the last verse was Mick Jagger?’ And she emailed me back and said, ‘Well, hell yes!'” Henley said.

For anyone who is familiar with Henley, they know he prefers a more traditional sound, saying the album is an ode to Americana. “I hear a lot of stuff that is more artifice than art, and there is a difference,” he said. “It’s always gone in cycles, both here in Nashville and in Los Angeles. You get into a cycle of music that is very pop and shallow for a while and then someone comes along and begins a new wave of neo-traditional music. And it just goes round and round and round.”
