All Dustin Lynch wants for Valentine’s Day is a “Mind Reader.” Yes, he is alluding to his single of the same name, which he says is about a girl who knows what she wants. And for Lynch, this trait is sexy.

He says “Mind Reader” is one of his favorite songs off his sophomore album Where It’s At and it’s a crowd favorite as well.

“I love playing that song because I get to flirt a little bit on stage,” he says while sitting on a lounge chair on the beach in Riviera Maya, Mexico, at Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa festival. “It’s fun to point out somebody in the crowd and goof off. It’s a great message. I always kid that it’s a song that tells girls, ‘Hey, it’s okay if you know where you want to eat for dinner.’ Everybody always drives in circles around town. ‘Where do you want to eat?’ ‘I don’t care.'”

Lynch is single and admits that while he doesn’t have any romantic plans made for this Valentine’s Day, he does want to know where his future significant other wants to eat.

“I want a mind reader. That’s my perfect Valentine’s Day,” he says with a laugh. “‘Babe, where do you want to eat? What do you want to do?’ That would be awesome. Leave the guessing out of it.”

Lynch says his idea of the perfect Valentine’s Day date is somewhere on a beach, alluding to the setting at Riviera Maya, surrounded by water and palm trees, as being an ideal setting.

“I don’t really have a Valentine’s Day date this year. I’m single,” he confesses. “I suck at this whole dating thing. I don’t have a super memorable Valentine’s. Back in college I did pull off the rose petal path. That’s probably the best I’ve done. That was years ago in college but I would say that’s probably my best effort so far.”

While Lynch may be single and admits that he isn’t the best at dating, he does have a knack for writing love songs. His debut single “Cowboys and Angels” was inspired by his grandparents’ love story, who have been married for 61 years.

As far as love advice goes, Lynch says the best guidance he has ever received on love is that you shouldn’t have to try.

“It should just be comfortable and natural,” he says of love. “I think everybody wants to fall in love and I think a lot of people force it because they want to. No, I think you should let it find you and be happy with who you are and not force anything.”
