As the country music community continues to mourn the loss of Montgomery Gentry’s Troy GentryEddie Montgomery’s wife is stepping forward to thank fans and friends for their support in the days since Gentry’s untimely passing.

“We want to thank you for the outpouring of love, comfort, and prayers. Friends like you have helped us get through this difficult time,” Jennifer Montgomery shared in a heartfelt tweet posted on Friday (Sept. 15), one week after Gentry’s death.

Fans have yet to hear any official statement from Eddie, which is understandable as grieves the terrible loss of his longtime friend and duo partner. While Montgomery was on hand for Gentry’s public memorial service on Thurs. (Sept. 14), he did not speak publicly during the ceremony.

Montgomery Gentry was set to release a new album in 2018, however, it is currently unclear if the project will ever be released in its entirety. On Friday, poignant song called “Better Me” from the record was released to fans.

With lyrics like “I might cuss and fight, tell a few lies / Break a few rules making promises I can’t keep / But I’ve turned a page on wilder days / I’m writing all this down hoping you’ll see / I ain’t saying I’m perfect, but I’m working on a better me,” friends of Gentry say the track was autobiographical for the singer. The track features Gentry on lead vocals and is also the song that the family chose to use to close his celebration of life on Thursday.

“Better Me” is now available for streaming and purchase via online retailers.
