Emily Brooke Struggles Through ‘American Idol’ Top 24 Solo Performance

"I’ve never heard you have struggle with pitch as much as you just did. Maybe this was a little bit of an off night for you because you’re talent is unquestionable," Harry Connick, Jr. said.

American Idol has finally trimmed down thousands of auditions and named its Top 24. Over the next two weeks, these 24 contestants will be trimmed further to make the Top 14.

In pre-recorded clips that aired last night, the first 12 of the 24 performed, including Florida native Emily Brooke. Fans may remember Emily from last season, when she was eliminated just before the Top 24. She eventually made her way back to the show, showcasing major growth over the last year.

Unfortunately, Emily’s performance of Cassadee Pope’s “I Am Invincible” fell a little short for the judges.

“I really like you, Emily, but I don’t know that that was the best song for you,” Jennifer Lopez said. “The lower, it played in the lower part of your range, which isn’t the sweetest and most beautiful part of your voice. Always remember, in these important moments where we’re about to make huge cuts, to do stuff that really plays to your strengths.”

“You have to sell those lyrics. You have to make us feel what you’re feeling and I didn’t feel it,” Harry Connick, Jr. added. “I’ve never heard you have struggle with pitch as much as you just did. Maybe this was a little bit of an off night for you because you’re talent is unquestionable.”

“For me, that song didn’t play to all those strengths for you, but what I did like about it is that you’re trying, exploring and looking for more of your artistry, so congrats on that,” Keith Urban concluded.
