After a long summer spent out of the spotlight working on his highly anticipated new album, hitmaker Eric Church is back and ready to reveal his new body of work.

The superstar will start the reveal with the live performance debut of his brand new single, “The Outsiders,” during Wednesday’s CMA Awards. Church, who is nominated for two CMA Awards this year, is preparing himself for the unknown.

“Could be crowd-surfing, could be mosh pits,” Church told The Associated Press of his upcoming performance. “They could be throwing cans at me.”

“The Outsiders,” which has an edgy-rock vibe, is the lead single from Church’s forthcoming project of the same name, set for release Feb. 11. The album is the follow up to Church’s last album Chief, which was awarded the coveted Album of the Year award from the Country Music Association as well as the Academy of Country Music.

Church once again enlisted longtime producer Jay Joyce for the project. They had the task of narrowing down the 121 songs Church wrote for the album into the 11 or 12 that made the final cut.

“We’ve had the ability after every record to feel more emboldened by what we did on the last record,” Church told reporter Chris Talbott. “And I think with this one, with the success of ‘Chief,’ we were a little bulletproof.”

Church admitted that the songs are “bold” and that he’s excited to get the music out there.

“I’m interested to see what people think about them. I always say the songs are mine till the moment we release them, then they’re the fans’ (songs). I’m very anxious. I have a lot of anxiety to see what people think about what we’ve done.”
