Who knew country and dance music could blend together so effortlessly?

Florida Georgia Line and The Chainsmokers combined the best of both worlds for a collaboration performance of their track, “Last Day Alive,” atop the brand new FGL House venue in the heart of downtown Nashville. As the duos teamed up the twang and the electronic bass for an epic showing of the 80s-inspired tune, the rooftop of the restaurant was ablaze with the guys firing up the energetic crowd during their 2017 CMT Music Awards moment.

The somewhat spontaneous collaboration between the country duo and the EDM-pop group landed in FGL’s lap, but they looked at the project as another opportunity to expand their musical depth while getting featured on The Chainsmokers’ record, Memories…Do Not Open.

“It kind of happened last minute.  We got a call from them and they pretty much had this song and they wanted us to sing on it. And it was just a meant to be thing, it really was. It was funny, a few weeks earlier we literally were in an interview and they said, ‘Who would you like to collaborate with?’ And for the first time. BK said, ‘Well the Chainsmokers would be cool.’ And in my head I literally was thinking, ‘Wow, that’s something we’ve never talked about but that would be really cool.’ And the next thing you know, a week and a half later we’re getting a phone call. So it’s just funny how we really do feel like it’s kind of a God thing and it was definitely meant to be,” Tyler Hubbard told Sounds Like Nashville and other media.

Florida Georgia Line was nominated in a handful of categories tonight, including nods for Duo Video of the Year and the coveted Video of the Year Award.

The 2017 CMT Music Awards is broadcasting live from Nashville on CMT.
