Earlier this month, we told you about 15-year-old Brandy Szanyi, a longtime Tracy Lawrence fan who had been hospitalized due to complications after contracting influenza. At the time, Brandy had coded twice after the virus attacked her lungs and heart. Doctors were able to resuscitate her, but were forced to remove her left leg.

“We had to choose between life and limb, and we chose life,” Jennifer Szyani, Brandy’s mother, told ABC Action News earlier this month. “I have healthy children. I never would have expected in a million years this would take my kid down like it did.”

Brandy’s recovery took a devastating turn this week as she lost her life after suffering even more complications due to the flu, ABC Action News reports.

Prior to her death, Brandy would turn to Lawrence’s music to lift her spirits. Every night, her nurses would turn on the singer’s Pandora station to help calm her nerves. That’s why Brandy’s sister Cara decided to reach out to Lawrence and his team to see if he would pay her a visit when he came to the area for a concert.

Lawrence promised to stop by the hospital and fulfilled that promise to Bandy and her family on March 17 before his concert in Tampa, FL. After his visit, Cara took to Twitter to thank Lawrence for his generosity.

“This amazing man made my sisters dream come true and for that I’m forever grateful,” Cara wrote.

On Thursday, Cara shared a heartfelt message to her Twitter followers writing, “All I ask is that if you have siblings, stop what you are doing and give them the biggest hug and tell them you love them.”

Funeral plans for the young girl have not been announced at this time.
