Everyone knows that the sincerest form of flattery is through that of imitation. Frankie Ballard took on the artistic quality of that well-known phrase by taking on one of Bob Seger’s old album cuts he always admired.

Adding a little bit of his raw country sound to the original piano-heavy tune, Ballard made “You’ll Accomp’ny Me” his own jam without losing the authenticity of the original lyric that the country singer fell in love with from the start. As a nostalgic play for his most recent album, El Rio, Ballard channeled the track that resonated with him from a young age to honor one of his heroes.

“I grew up in Michigan and Bob Seger was played on every radio station in Michigan. It was one of those songs where I became a deep fan and he was a big influence on me. His blend of Country music and Blues was really special to me. I always really related to it and it was something I always looked up to. And this song,  ‘You’ll Accomp’ny Me,’ was released on an album of his back in the very early 80’s and it did okay but it was a song that had a lyric that was really courageous,” he exclusively told Sounds Like Nashville during a recent interview.

As former tour mates, Ballard hopes to do Seger proud with his own rendition of the song, and wants fans to find a connection to the song when they play it through their own speakers.

“I’m hoping he’s digging this version,” admitted Ballard. “It’s fun to see in its infant stages a lot of people liking it so far. You never know…it’s gonna be fun to see what it does.”

Ballard will be out on the road for the spring, playing shows all across the country and even some abroad. Fans can find more information about dates and tickets on his website.
