Before taking the stage over home base in Yankee Stadium, Good Morning America caught up with legendary country star Garth Brooks as he headlined the iconic sports venue.

Marking nearly 20 years since his last concert in New York, which just so happened to take over Central Park, Brooks set another record with his recent Big Apple show as the first country singer to play the famous Yankee Stadium.

The popular morning talk show talked with the “Friends in Low Places” singer about his love of the all-American sport before discussing the anticipation of the show.

“Second to music, but yes, I love baseball. I love the history of it,” he told Rachel Smith of GMA.

Even though it had been a long time since Brooks played New York City, his shows were always known for their lively productions and getting excited for his performances was never that hard to do, according to Brooks.

“If you have to get pumped for this show, you’re dead,” he claimed.

Before signing off with the interview, Smith even threw a little good luck pun into the mix, telling Brooks to “knock it out of the park.”

The legend did just that throughout his entire set that night, keeping the crowd fired up from the first song to the last encore.

Brooks announced to the crowd that a new album was in the works and would be released this fall for all to hear.
