We’ve lost yet another legend this year: Guy Clark died at age 74 from a long-term illness in a hospital in Nashville on Tuesday morning (5/17).

The country legend had bouts with illnesses for years, even going through a lengthy battle with cancer. His declining health ultimately resulted in his death.

Clark was well-known in the music community for being a country troubadour, broadening the horizons for many popular songs in his time. He was a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame for his work, in which he wrote 13 studio albums. He had also been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his songwriting by the Americana Music Association.

His songwriting collection landed his tunes in great company among some of the most famous country singers to date. Anyone from Johnny Cash to George Strait to Willie Nelson recorded his written hits among so many other legendary singers.

Not only did his writing end up in the hands of incredible artists, but it also led him to so many tightknit relationships in the music industry. Fellow songwriters like Vince Gill and Ashley Monroe noted that Clark was one of the best storytellers through his music, leaving an imprint on the country music world for time to come.
