Gwen Stefani’s music career originated in the ska-pop category, but she’s found a new appreciation for country music thanks to boyfriend Blake Shelton.

After spending a lot of time together both on the set of NBC’s The Voice and off duty, Stefani admits that her country music partner has taken the time to teach her all there is to know about the format. Noting the passion put forth toward in Shelton’s performances, Stefani said that she’s come to terms with the fact that country music thrives off the truth and someone’s open soul.

“I’ve learned so much about heart — your heart in music — just by listening to a lot of this country music,” Stefani said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Not just stopping at her recent obsession with country music, Stefani also couldn’t help but show great pride over her boyfriend’s stage presence. The pop singer admired his laid-back personality when he hits the stage, and she admitted Shelton acts the same when he performs at home as well.

“The way he is such a nonchalant performer, and I mean in the greatest way, like he’s so at ease no matter where,” she spilled about Shelton.

While there are no plans for Stefani to return to the hit show quite yet, Shelton will be coming back to season 13 of The Voice as a coach, alongside Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson. He’ll also return with Levine for season 14 with new coach Kelly Clarkson.
