Even Gwen Stefani felt a little bit skeptical about mixing business with pleasure when it came to filming the upcoming season of NBC’s The Voice with her now boyfriend Blake Shelton as competition.

Stefani stopped by Today to discuss her transition back to The Voice set and set the record straight on what really went down when she decided to return to the vocal competition show to go head-to-head with Shelton in the coaching chairs. While the two previously worked together on the show, the romance had not yet sparked between the two at that point, making Stefani a tad worried that the chemistry may ruin the show’s intentions.

“I was nervous at first! I was like, ‘Wait, is this gonna be awkward? How am I gonna act,’ you know what I mean? But it’s just natural,” she admitted to hosts Matt Lauer and Carson Daly.

The pop singer did, however, admit that sometimes bringing work home with them isn’t exactly the best pillow talk topic as they don’t always wants to divulge their competitive secrets to one another in order to be victorious as a coach.

“I feel like sometimes, it is a little bit like ok, we’re driving home and I’m like, ‘Do you think I should put them together?’ And then I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, I’m not going to talk to you about this. I don’t know if you are the enemy.’ It’s confusing, you know,” Stefani explained.

Check out what else Stefani had to say about her romance with the country star and be sure to tune in for the season 12 premiere of The Voice on Monday, February 27, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
