Earlier today, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol located the body of Craig Strickland, lead singer of the Arkansas based band Backroad Anthem. Strickland, 29, was reported missing seven days ago, after embarking on a hunting trip in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 27.

His body was found along the shoreline of Kaw Lake, in an area that is known as Bear Creek Cove. After the news spread, Strickland’s wife Helen took to Instagram to honor her late husband.

“Craig was found today. We can finally rest knowing that he is at Home in Heaven with his Father,” she wrote. “The night of the accident he had fought his way out of the water and up a hill before the stages of hypothermia set in. He experienced no pain in his final moments and simply felt like he was falling asleep. They found him lying in the shape of a cross looking up to his Father.”

She also thanked everyone for the prayers throughout the past week. “Thank you to every single person who prayed for him and our family during this time. There was not a more peaceful way for him to go into the arms of our Lord, and I know your prayers had a role in making that happen. I know he saw Jesus at that moment when he laid down and walked arm in arm with Him into a better Everlasting Life. I love you with all my heart Craig Michael.”

Craig and Helen wed in 2014.

Strickland’s friend, Chase Morland, was found dead on Monday, December 28. Authorities confirmed that his cause of death was drowning and exposure to freezing temperatures.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Strickland and Morland families during this difficult time.
