How Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins Are Already Preparing for Parenthood
Even Dierks Bentley shared some wise words with Rhett to guide him in the right direction as a soon-to-be father of two.
Becoming a first-time parent of one child is already hard work, but Thomas Rhett and wife Lauren Akins have two babies coming in hot to prepare for as they make this next transition in their lives.
Rhett and Akins announced they’re expecting their very own bundle of joy as well as adopting a child from Africa in 2017, and they’ve got a lot to get ready for before the two kids arrive. In order to get their heads in the parental zone, the country couple has been reaching out as much as they can to take in every seed of wisdom from friends who already have a family of their own.
“I’ve been doing as much talking to other artists who have kids as possible,” Rhett told People Magazine recently. “I had dinner with Dierks Bentley and his wife the other night and I got a few tips from Dierks. He was like, ‘Well, you’re not going to get any sleep and Red Bull is going to be your best friend!’”
For Rhett and Akins, their friends seem to be their lucky charm and saving grace at this point in their big life changes. It wasn’t until they were bonding on safari with Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and wife, Hayley, that they got the huge surprise of starting a family after receiving positive pregnancy test results.
“I’m jumping up and down, Tyler’s giving me a bear hug and Hayley’s running out of their room and I’m like, ‘Thomas Rhett is not even here,” explained Akins. (Rhett was in the gym exercising when she got the results.)
With a massive tour on the way for Rhett kicking off later this month, he’s already taking the nesting aspects seriously by making a massive tour bus renovation to turn the hang-out space into a nurturing place to call home on the road.
“I took a whole row of bunks out of my bus and got a baby crib put in there,” said Rhett. “So we’re getting life on the road ready for when we do bring them out there.”
Combining the excitement of two new additions as well as the Home Team Tour, the couple feels blessed to have such incredible sights set on the horizon for their thrilling year ahead.
“I think the way it all worked out, both of us have such a peace about this whole process, that it’s so right. We could not be happier. We feel like 2017 is going to be our big year,” said Akins.
