"Rush is never a good word for anything, but I know my heart’s happy, and I hope she’s as happy as I am," Hayes admitted.

Even though Hunter Hayes has been in a serious relationship for a handful of years, he isn’t exactly hearing wedding bells chiming all around.

The country singer first put his relationship with girlfriend Libby Barnes on display while walking the red carpet at a 2014 event, and they’ve been falling in love ever since. Although it could be said that they’ve grown very comfortable with one another, Hayes doesn’t feel the urgency about taking the next step to engagement and then marriage right this second. He cherishes the time they spend together and recognizes that’s what counts when it comes to their personal dynamic.

“I think everybody has their own schedule,” he said during an interview with People. “Rush is never a good word for anything, but I know my heart’s happy, and I hope she’s as happy as I am.”

While he and Barnes may have gotten into their groove as boyfriend and girlfriend, Hayes still puts communication at the top of his list for guidelines to follow in any sort of relationship. Valuing the importance of talking things out, the “Wanted” singer stresses how much it matters to keep in contact with each other no matter how busy either person can get.

“Everyone talks about communication, but like being super clear, super upfront. We just promised to each other that we’re gonna make time and commit to being with each other,” Hayes admitted.

Hayes is currently working to release a new album, and has put out three tracks including “Yesterday’s Song,” “Amen” and “Young Blood.”
