Jake Owen Surprises Newly Engaged Couple With Caricature Meet-and-Greet
While in Chicago for the Windy City Smoke Out, Owen gave a couple a night they won't soon forget.
Not every day does Jake Owen invite you onto his bus for a caricature session before inviting you up on stage at a concert.
While up in Chicago for the Windy City Smoke Out held earlier this month, Owen surprised a newly engaged couple by picking them randomly out of the crowd and getting to know them personally before heading out on stage that night. Giving Vinny and Melissa the day of a lifetime, the couple couldn’t hold back their tears or excitement as they met and hung out with one of their favorite country artists on a nice summer day.
Vinny really let his emotions and disbelief shine through as he sat dumbfounded by the opportunity in Owen’s bus for a solid 10 minutes. Happy just to be there, Owen decided to bust out one of his secret talents as they exchanged stories, in which the country singer pulled out his trusty sketch book and a pen to create a caricature of the couple.

Owen played up the idea that he was making Melissa’s eyes special just as Vinny had described to them earlier, the couple anxiously awaited their personalized portrait. Although Owen totally messed with them and gave them a coloring book image with his signature on it, they still promised him that they would be hanging the masterpiece up in their house, framed and all.
Melissa tells Sounds Like Nashville that meeting Jake “was an experience of a lifetime.”
“We are still on cloud nine over this and I love telling everyone just how it happened,” she shares. “The fact that Jake wants to meet his fans and connect with them means everything. Things like this don’t happen everyday. Not many artists out there are willing to do what he did. He is such an amazing and humble guy. Not to mention so down to earth!”
Making the evening even more magical, Owen decided to dedicate his hit “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You” to Melissa and Vinny, and even invited them to join him on stage during some of his set. Melissa says the song is now in the running to be their wedding song and that she’s been listening to it non-stop since meeting Jake.
Owen’s connection to his fans definitely proved to be quite tight. Putting emphasis back on the supporters who got him to live his dream every day, Owen just wants to give a little bit back for all they’ve done throughout the years.
