Jake Owen is burning up the charts with his top-15-and-climbing hit “American Country Love Song.” The song is the lead single from his much-anticipated new album, American Love, out July 29.

When it came time to make the music video for the summertime anthem, Owen decided to trash the script and wing it. He bought himself a seafoam green 1966 Volkswagon Microbus, dubbed it the “love bus,” and hit the road for an epic road trip to Key West, Florida. The 34-year-old made several stops to meet with fans along the way and it was all captured on film for what became his music video.

“I wanted to just kind hop in that van that I think is the pure example of freedom, ya know that whole thought of the old hippie vans…people would pile into and see where it takes them,” Owen told Sounds Like Nashville. “I wanted to that, I wanted to film that. I was like, ‘let’s just take a camera and let this be the video.’ The video would be our journey getting to Key West and whatever happens along the way will happen.”

The Florida native gathered countless memories (and fan signatures!) along the way and hopes to make even more on the road this year.

“This thing has made a lot of people happy and it’s gonna continue to make people happy,” he said after taking the SLN crew for a spin in the “love bus.” “We’re gonna take it all around the country with us this year and let everybody hang out and sign more of it, wherever there’s a spot to sign and be a part of it.”
