Jake Owen knows how to command a stage after years of putting on concerts all over the world, but he learned a new skill in the art of improv insults while competing against comedian and host Wayne Brady during an episode of Drop the Mic.

The country singer faced off against the comedy legend, throwing shade back and forth to a hip-hop beat. Owen took first blows toward Brady by ragging on his baldness and his lack of talent as a daytime game show host. But that didn’t stop his on-stage enemy from bringing the heat during his comeback rap.

“Battle a country star, I was down with that / Battle Jake Owen, who the hell is that / Your music, I’d rather listen to Bieber / I’d drink Kool-Aid with Donald Trump watching ‘Jungle Fever,’ Brady sang on the track, ending it off with a burn about Owen’s lack of singing abilities.

Thankfully, the playful fight wasn’t just a one-and-done ordeal for Owen as he stomped out some critical words toward Brady about not being that popular with the younger generation on television.

“I see you dancing on a game show, it makes me sad / little kids watching, they’re like, ‘Man, is that Nick Cannon’s dad,’” Owen flowed out on top as his rebuttal.

Brady proceeded to jab at Owen’s golf skills and make fun of the singer not living up to the potential of someone more known like Keith Urban. Owen stepped up his game a bit higher to take Brady down about never being able to land a top single and making comedy boring with his mundane jokes.

After the friendly fight ceased, Brady came out victorious after the audience rewarded his flow with a huge round of applause compared to Owen’s support cheers. The two guys exchanged a chummy handshake, showing a sign of forgiveness toward the comments spoken just moments before.
