Jason Aldean Admits CMA Awards Snub is ‘Disappointing’

“At this point, I feel like I've gone out and done everything I can do and put ourselves in a position to be there, and people either vote for you or they don't,” he said.

When the 50th Annual CMA Award nominations came out last week, several names were noticeably missing from the final nominees, including the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year, Jason Aldean.

For the “A Little More Summertime” singer, the snub is disappointing, but he’s keeping it all in perspective. Just the night before, he was honored with the Triple Crown Award at the 10th annual ACM Honors. The accolade goes to a singer that has won New Male/Female Vocalist of the Year, Male/Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year from the Academy of Country Music.

“It’s one of those things. Obviously, when you see that stuff, it’s disappointing, but at the same time, a day before that we’re celebrating the triple crown in winning the Entertainer of the Year,” Aldean told Sounds Like Nashville and other media outlets during a recent interview. “I don’t understand the way the voting goes any more than anybody else does. Things are going to happen if they’re going to happen. There’s nothing I can go do that’s going to magically get us nominated next year or the year after that.”

The lack of a nomination was baffling for not only his fans, but for the Georgia native himself, who admits he puts it all out on the table night after night, tour after  tour.

“At this point, I feel like I’ve gone out and done everything I can do and put ourselves in a position to be there, and people either vote for you or they don’t,” he said. “I don’t know why it’s so different from ACMs to CMAs. It just seems to be that way, and it’s not just this year. It just seems to be that way a lot over the years. You look at it and you’re like, ‘I’m not the only one that got left out of that,’ Blake [Shelton] and Kenny [Chesney]. I don’t think there’s any rhyme or reason to it. Somebody’s going to get left out, and just seems to be us, so I don’t know.”

The only thing Aldean knows for sure is what he and his crew brings to the table while out on the road, and he’ll continue to bring the same energy and enthusiasm to the show, awarded for it or not.

“You just go out and do your thing, put yourself in a position to be there next year, and if you get voted for, great, but here’s my thing. If we can’t get enough votes to be nominated, we sure aren’t going to get enough votes to win, so what’s the point,” concluded Aldean. “Honestly, I’m not a ‘It’s good to be here’ guy. I’m just competitive. I want to win. If I can barely squeak in at just enough votes for a nomination, I just as soon if we ain’t going to win, I as soon not be there anyway.”

The 50th Annual CMA Awards air live November 2nd at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
