When Jason Aldean announced his upcoming seventh studio album, They Don’t Know, fans quickly caught sight of a duet featuring rising superstar Kelsea Ballerini on the track list. While not much is known about the song, Aldean recently opened up to iHeartRadio about how the collaboration came to be.

“‘First Time Again’ is a song on the record that came in, one of the writers Michael Tyler had pitched us this song, and it was something that I was actually going to cut on my own. We really didn’t have a plan for it to be a duet. The more we kind of got listening to it, we thought it could probably set up that way,” Aldean explained in a short video clip.

“So we started thinking about people, who we think could possibly come in and be part of the song and I look around and Kelsea is one of those, she’s off to a great start. She’s really early in her career, first album, but she’s off to a really great start having some big songs. I love her voice, I think she’s got a great voice.”

It seems Ballerini was the perfect pick as Aldean feels the song is one fans will really resonate with.

“… Hearing her voice on it and how our voices blended together, it really worked and sounded great,” he said. “So I’m excited to have her on the record and hopefully my fans will dig the record and hers will too.”

“First Time Again” will be featured on Aldean’s upcoming album, They Don’t Know, set for release Sept. 9. The album is available for pre-order on iTunes now.
