Just a week and a half after witnessing the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, Jason Aldean braved the task of returning back to his spot on stage as he resumed his They Don’t Know tour for fans in Oklahoma.

The country singer made a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live, but his concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma, marked the first time Aldean stepped back to perform a live show for his time on the road. Taking a short time out to thank the fans for their resilience on attending the performance rather than hiding in fear, he wanted to give them the energy they deserve throughout his set.

“As you guys know, man, it’s been a tough week and a half for all of us up here onstage, and I want to say, thank you guys for being here tonight. You guys are gonna help us get through this. I hope none of you guys ever experience anything like that. It’s been a really tough thing to deal with for all of us up here, and I think the one thing that’s probably gonna help us more than anything is playing for you guys tonight, so thank y’all so much for coming out,” Aldean said to the Oklahoma crowd.

Aldean also acknowledged the victims of the shooting by sending out his genuine thoughts and prayers within the four-minute speech. He understood that people may not have “visible scars” but rather the emotional toll taken on all those at the festival and wishes them well as they recover from the horrific incident.

Pointing out the good he’s seen through everyday heroic acts and helping hands, Aldean also noted how the country has come together in this time of crisis despite any difference in opinions.

“Sometimes this country can be divided. It seems like really divided a lot of time and that’s a really unfortunate thing to see. But it’s been really cool to see all the support—all the love and support—that’s been going on for the last 10 days or so because of what’s happened in Las Vegas. And I just feel like if we could do that on a daily basis, man, the world would be a lot better place,” he encouraged.

Aldean has been just one of many stars in the country community to reach out to all those affected by the Las Vegas massacre by visiting patients and giving back by way of funding relief efforts to help the suffering. He plans to continue his They Don’t Know tour throughout the rest of the remaining dates, which fans can find online.
