Jenna Renae and Jeneve Mitchell Get Help From Scotty McCreery on ‘American Idol’

On Wednesday (Feb. 10), the first 12 contestants from the Top 24 of the final season of American Idol performed solo songs for the judges. The following night, the contestants were paired with former American Idols for some epic duets.

Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery returned to the Idol stage offer a helping hand to Jenna Renae and Jeneve Rose Mitchell.

On Wednesday, Jenna Renae performed Maren Morris’ “My Church,” which impressed the judges. She maintained her momentum with her duet on McCreery’s “See You Tonight.”

“It was tricky for you because it’s Scotty’s song and that’s not a song you would do. You probably would change it up,” Keith Urban told her. “I find it very hard to critique what you did based on that, but lovely voice.”

“Yeah, it’s a hard dynamic seeing you guys next to another person like that, but I think that the song was suited well for the two of you and you did the best you could on it,” Jennifer Lopez agreed.

For Mitchell, however, the judges weren’t as impressed with her and McCreery’s rendition of Montgomery Gentry’s “Gone.”

“It was bizarre. I mean, what the… I have no idea why you got saddled with that song, probably pun intended,” Urban expressed. “I like the song, but it did nothing for you. So for me, I’m just going to forget that performance happened because I like you a lot, Jeneve.”

“There’s no one in this competition, maybe in all the years I’ve been watching it, even as a judge, that is in this very specific lane that you have,” said Harry Connick, Jr. You’re unique and you’re extraordinarily musical. It’s a very interesting gift that you have. Better last night, but still… Keith said it was bizarre. It was a little bizarre.”

At the end of the night, five of the 12 were sent home. For Jenne Renae, it was the end of the road, but Jeneve Rose Mitchell will be moving forward in hopes of making the top 10 and performing at the live shows.
