Jenna Renae Showcases Maren Morris’ ‘My Church’ on ‘American Idol’

"I like that. I felt like you were really in your element. And you seem to have a lot of joy when you’re singing, which I hadn’t seen from you before. It was a good job," Jennifer Lopez said of Renae.

American Idol’s final season is whittled down to a slim Top 24. Before the judges make the final cuts to the Top 10, the remaining contestants are fighting to make an impression.

Making a huge impression on Keith Urban last night was Jenna Renae. Renae took on Maren Morris’ breakout hit, “My Church,” which got Urban excited right off the bat (He is taking Morris out on the road as part of his RipCORD World Tour this year)!

Renae’s performance had a split reaction from the judges, but was all in all, pretty positive.

“Can we just say what a fitting venue this is for that song,” Urban said of the venue. “It was a really good song for you. I’m still curious to hear other sides of you so that there’s a yin and yang. There’s a lot of yin and yin going on right now, but it was good tonight.”

“I like that. I felt like you were really in your element. And you seem to have a lot of joy when you’re singing, which I hadn’t seen from you before. It was a good job,” Jennifer Lopez added.

“What I liked was the energy and the enthusiasm. There’s a fine line between sort of singing as enthusiastically as you can and shouting. I felt like it was a little bit shouted and I think your pitch was sacrificed as a result of that,” Harry Connick, Jr. explained amid boos from the audience.
