"I thought, I want to write a song that celebrates all the ways of unity. Of the things that are alike about us," Jennifer Nettles told us.

Jennifer Nettles released her brand new album, Playing With Fire, last week and if you’ve listened, you’ve noticed a little Latin flavor in the surprise collaboration with Jennifer Lopez.

The two got together with a little help from Big Machine Label Group’s President & CEO, Scott Borchetta.

“I was having a conversation with Scott Borchetta, my label head, and he was talking to me about some of the projects that he’s been involved in recently with the Spanish-speaking community and I said ‘yeah, I’ve actually always wanted to do either a song in Spanish or a collaboration and I’d love to do something with J. Lo,’” Nettles told Sounds Like Nashville.

The conversation happened to take place when Borchetta was working as a mentor on American Idol, where Lopez was a judge.

“I said ‘Could you get me five minutes. I have an idea for a song that I want to pitch.’ I thought, I want to write a song that celebrates all the ways of unity. Of the things that are alike about us.”

The meeting turning into a writing session, and the song “My House” was born.

“Being able to collaborate, not only as singers, but to collaborate as writers and talk about these parts of our lives and ‘okay, well, what do we want to share and celebrate about the ways that we are the same? What things do we hold in common?’”

Watch as Nettles tells us about the collaboration, as well as her most favorite music video she’s been in and if she’d be interested in being on Dancing With The Stars.
