When it comes to Christmas traditions, it seems as if Jennifer Nettles has several go-to activities. For the last seven years, the singer has hosted the CMA Country Christmas special and has also appeared in two movies about Dolly Parton’s life, each released during the holiday season. But as for other traditions, she admits she doesn’t have many to choose from.

“I have a big Southern family, so we are always centered around food and there’s always lots of loud cackling laughter. We don’t have anything specific beyond that,” Nettles told Sounds Like Nashville and other media recently. “Just trying to make the point with everyone in their busy lives to get together when we can, you know?”

The Georgia native may start thinking about starting some new traditions, like Elf on the Shelf, for her son Magnus, who is starting to understand more about what makes Christmas so special.

“He’ll be four right at the beginning of December, so yeah, I think this will be his first year to really kind of get it. He knows who Santa Claus is and I think he’ll really put it together about the presents,” she said with a laugh.

Nettles will also round out the holidays with her brand new Christmas album, To Celebrate Christmas, a 10-song project that includes collaborations with Idina Menzel and Andra Day.
