Going more for the playful route rather than a tragic breakup treatment, Jillian Jacqueline throws it back to 70s mayhem in the music video for “Reasons.”

Clad in minimalistic ensembles with that muted vintage flair, Jacqueline faces the consequences of leaving a love that everyone depended on. Not feeling the same passion from once before, the singer captures the numbness of the breakup with a straight face throughout most of the mini-film while her friends and family poke fun at her hopeless scenario.

Jacqueline, who co-directed the video concept, even points jabs toward realistic reactions from loved ones by making the lyrics come to life in their quirky ways. From sisters claiming mismatched horoscopes broke the couple up to her parents blatantly telling the girl that she’s not getting any younger, Jacqueline captured the harsh reality that comes with falling out of love in an alternative manner.

“I’m a Wes Anderson fan and I love quirky films. I had this dream in my head of turning the song into an art deco film. It has a sense of humor through the vignettes, these scenarios taking lines from the song and interpreting them quite literally. But doing it with a sense of humor. I wanted the video to be an extension of the song and also give new life to it and make it feel a little bit tongue-in-cheek and like we’re playing with it a little bit. Because in hindsight, looking at it now, I realize there can be a sense of humor in realizing that you’re tiptoeing around the truth with someone and turning into roommates,” she told Refinery29 about the script inspiration.

Capitalizing on her unique touch to country music, the singer/songwriter built up quite a loaded plate for 2018 with packed tours and new music on the way. She’ll hit the road with both Brett Eldredge and Thomas Rhett, as well as make her rounds through the festival circuit later this summer.
