In September 2017, singer Jo Dee Messina revealed to the world that she had been going through a secret battle, one with cancer. In a letter posted to Facebook, the team surrounding the “Heads Carolina, Tails California” singer shared that she’d be taking time off to concentrate her full energy in helping her body heal.

“We don’t know anything specific regarding the treatment plan at this point, but Jo Dee is working closely with a team to explore all options,” her team wrote at the time. “She has taken the semester off from classes at The King’s University, and her last tour date for the year will be October 7 (all other 2017 dates are being postponed), as she will begin cancer treatment this Fall.”

On Thursday (3/29), her same team took to Facebook for another update, this time, with more positive news.

“Many of you have requested updates and we are happy to report that she is feeling well and has kicked off her 2018 shows,” Team JDM shared. “She has also been in the studio writing and recording new music. That new music speaks directly to where Jo Dee’s heart was during a tumultuous summer and where it remains today — a place of gratitude for an unconditional, real, and faithful love.”

They continued, “In the midst of health, personal life, and financial struggles, at a time when she felt as though the waves were crashing down around her, Jo Dee’s heart was moved to focus on the enormity of God. Casting away the chaos and confusion, she praised and worshiped Him, and from that place came a song of which she is incredibly proud.”

Throughout the trying time, Messina kept busy writing new music, in which the team reveals more answers will be shared through the lyrics of the song.

“While faced with hard times, negative, and the bad, Jo Dee put pen to paper, called on producers Seth Mosley and X O Connor of Full Circle Music, and together they created a really special and important track. For all of you who have been asking how Jo Dee is doing and what is next for her, the answers are in the lyrics of this song.”

No word yet on when the song will be released.

Messina came into country music in 1996 with “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” and became a household name. Some of her other hits include “Bye, Bye,” “I’m Alright” and “Stand Beside Me,” as well as her No. 1 duet with Tim McGraw called “Bring on the Rain” in 2001.
